The #Louvre opened on this day in 1793, after more than two centuries as a royal palace

In the 1980s and 90s new additions graced the building. The Chinese American architect I.M. Pei built a steel-and-glass pyramid in the center of the Napoleon courtyard.  This has become a signifier of the museum that holds the worlds most famous painting, Di Vinci's #MonaLisa
